Shop

A shop is defined under Shop and Establishments Act of respective states and generally signifies a premisewhere any trade or business is carried or from where services rendered to customers and includes warehouse and godown but does not include a commercial establishment as commercial establishments are separately defined.

Hindu Law

Service Tax

Service Tax is an indirect Tax levied on Services which are defined as any activity other than transfer of title in goods

Works Contract

A Works Contract is indivisible contracts comprising an element of both service and goods incorporated during the course of execution of the contract and involve both VAT on goods and Service Tax on Services

Consumer

A Consumer for the purpose consumer protection Act is a person who procures any goods or services for self -consumption and not for commercial dealing

Competition Laws

Competition Laws are laws governing misuse of dominant position, unfair trade practice or restrictive trade practice to stifle the competition in a market.

Domestic Violence

A Term defined under Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 and constitute acts which causes harm or injures whether mentally or physically to meet any unlawful demand for any dowry or other property or valuable security

Bail

Bail means a security taken from a person to appear on a fixed date before a Court and is a way to provide relief from rigour of an arrest

FIR

FIR stands for First Information Report under Section 154 of Criminal Procedure Code and is in general a compliant about the commission of a crime in the shape of aninformation.

Writ

Writs are issued by High Court under Article 226 and Supreme court under Article 32 of the Constitution of India . Writ by High Court can be issued for protection of fundamental right or other legal right against the state while writ by supreme court can be issued for protection of fundamental rights of a citizen.

Labour Laws

The term "Labour Laws" is used as a reference to various enactments for the protection of workmen or employees and includes Factories Act, Minimum Wages Act , Payment of Gratuity Act, Provident Fund Act, Employee State Insurance Act, Equal remuneration Act , workmen compensation Act for disablement during work, Payment of Bonus Act, Industrial Dispute Act for retrenchment, lock out of a Unit and Contract( Labour Abolition and Regulation Act)

Excise

Excise is an indirect tax where taxable event is Manufacture and excise duty is levied at the time of clearance of manufactured goods from factory

CENVAT

CENVAT is the Excise duty paid on goods or which is available as a credit to the Industrial User. CENVAT Credit availment is governed by the CENVAT credit Rules.

Debt

Debt as defined in Recovery of Debts Due to Banks and Financial Institutions Act, 1993 means any liability which is claimed as due from a person by bank or financial institutions during the course of business and legally recoverable on the date of application before Debt Recovery Tribunal

Securitization Act

The term generally used to refer The Securitization and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest Act, 2002 wherein provisions governing enforcement of security interest of financial institutions are provided.

Non-performing Asset

The term used to refer bank loans to borrowers on which interest and principle is due for a considerable period as per the classification criteria laid down by RBI.

Decree

Formal adjudication by a Civil courts of rights and obligations of the parties to a suit

Warrant

This is issued by a Criminal court to Police for arrest and production before the court.

Summon

Summon is issued to an accused by criminal court to enforce attendance as a witness or accused or for production of documents
